ArmA Tactics (alternately Arma Tactics THD) is a turn-based close-combat strategy game.

Overview Edit

Tactics is a spin-off title that was initially released for the Nvidia Shield Portable in May 2013, though an updated and separately available version for Android and iOS devices was later released on September 6th, 2013.

It was finally released on October 1st, 2013 for other non-mobile platforms.

Tactics features a single player campaign, but does not have an online multiplayer mode. There is an alternate game mode that is designed with replayability in mind, and generates mission objectives randomly on campaign missions that have already been completed.

Tactics also features a set of unlockable achievements for players to obtain. These range from completing campaign objectives, scoring kills, as well as taking multiple enemies out with a particular type of weapon or piece of equipment.

Gameplay Edit

Unlike the flagship titles in the series, Tactics is a turn-based game as opposed to being a real-time shooter, with the player taking command of a four-man special forces team instead of controlling a single unit.

General gameplay takes place in a 3D environment and mainly uses an overhead bird's eye perspective instead of a first/third person view camera, although the game will occasionally switch to using an over-the-shoulder view when zooming in on individual units.

Tactics has minor RPG-style (Role Playing Game) elements to it, such as being able to obtain experience points after completing objectives in order to level up each of the four character's traits (weapon accuracy as an example), as well as unlocking new weapons and upgrading their individual equipment with obtained credits.

At the beginning of each mission, players are able to customise the loadout of their characters before starting, like switching their default primary for a different kind of weapon, or carrying additional equipment in the form of hand grenades or an extra medical kit.

During the player's turn, they have a limited amount of Action Points to set the waypoints of each team member and issue various commands such as moving stealthily, attacking, taking cover, or providing overwatch. Once they've planned out their orders they can end their turn, at which point other enemy AI units in the mission will get their opportunity to act.
