The PP-19 Bizon is a 9 mm submachine gun featured in ArmA: Cold War Assault and ArmA 2.

ArmA: Cold War Assault[]

« The Bizon is a compact submachine gun used by Soviet forces. Designed to be comfortable to fire and carry, Bizon submachine guns are built on shortened AKS-74 receivers, made from stamped steel. It features a simple blowback action, hammer fired from closed bolt, and is fed from helical magazines made mostly of plastic and mounted underneath the barrel.

The PP-19 Bizon is used exclusively by Soviet Spetsnaz operatives in ArmA: Cold War Assault.

Overview[]

The PP-19 Bizon is a selective-fire submachine gun that operates from a closed bolt design. It is chambered to fire the 9×18 mm cartridge.

It loads from 64-round helical magazines, and can achieve a maximum fire rate of up to 857 rounds per minute with a muzzle velocity of 400 m/s. The Bizon is fitted with an externally attached suppressor by default.

Exclusively wielded by the Soviet Spetsnaz, the Bizon is essentially the Soviet counterpart to the American MP5SD3 submachine gun. Like the MP5, the Bizon is fitted with a sound suppressor which makes it ideal for use in missions that require a silent firearm.

Compared to the MP5, the Bizon is almost identical handling-wise and is similar in terms of recoil. The main differences are its larger magazine capacity of 64 rounds versus the MP5's 30, which makes it deadlier in close quarters. However, because its 9 mm round inflicts less damage, the user may need to end up firing more rounds than neccessary to put down a single target.

The Bizon only supports one type of magazine. It requires one free inventory slot to carry:

Trivia[]

  • The in-game Bizon is based specifically on the "Bizon-2" variant of the real-world "PP-19 Bizon" SMG.
    • Similar to the G36E assault rifle, the PP-19 Bizon's appearance in Cold War Assault is highly anachronistic as the real-life Bizon would not undergo development until 1993, nor would it enter service until 1996.
  • The PP-19 Bizon was not initially available in Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (the original name for Cold War Assault) and was only added with the release of Patch 1.30.[1]

ArmA 2[]

« The Bizon is a unique submachine gun with its distinctive 64 round helical magazine. It is based heavily on the AKS74U and functions much the same way but the use of the smaller 9x18mm round trades penetration and range for magazine capacity and control.

The PP-19 Bizon 9 mm submachine gun.

The PP-19 Bizon is used exclusively by Russian Spetsnaz operatives in ArmA 2.

Overview[]

Like its Cold War-era predecessor, the PP-19 Bizon is a straight-blowback, selective-fire submachine gun that is also chambered to fire the 9×18 mm cartridge.

It still loads from 64-round helical magazines, and can achieve a maximum fire rate of up to 857 RPM with a muzzle velocity of 350 m/s. The Bizon does not support any optical sights or miscellaneous accessories but does come in a separate variant that is fitted with a sound suppressor by default.

Once again exclusively utilised by the Russian Spetsnaz, the ArmA 2 Bizon is the Russian counterpart to the newer MP5A5 submachine gun used by the USMC. Unlike in Cold War Assault, ArmA 2's Bizon SMG is comparable to the MP5A5 when it comes to both damage output and accuracy, which makes it much better than its Cold War incarnation.

However, the Bizon is made mostly redundant due to the existence of better 5.56 mm/5.45 mm carbines like the M4A1 and AKS-74U in ArmA 2. The Bizon's damage output is still quite low due to its 9 mm rounds (shared with the Makarov pistol) and lack sufficient energy to reliably put down targets located beyond 200 metres.

As such, it remains a niche weapon that only excels in close quarters. It is only in these situations that the Bizon shines due to its massive 64-round magazine; outside of these specific scenarios, its utility is limited.

Variants[]

PP-19 Bizon SD[]

The PP-19 Bizon SD 9 mm submachine gun.

The PP-19 Bizon SD is simply a suppressed version of the baseline Bizon SMG.

As with its parent weapon, it is also chambered to fire the same 9×18 mm round but uses special subsonic ammunition that can only be loaded by the PP-19 Bizon SD (the magazines themselves are not interchangeable).

Aside from its lower muzzle velocity of 320 m/s and the sound suppressor making it even quieter to shoot with, it is virtually identical to the baseline Bizon in every other way.

Ironsights[]

Arma2-bizon-ironsight-overview
The PP-19 Bizon's zeroing can be adjusted between three settings: 50 metres, 100 metres, and 150 metres. By default, it utilises a zeroing of 50 metres.

The unsuppressed Bizon can load two types of magazines while the suppressed variant is restricted to loading one type only. Both require one free inventory slot to carry:

Bizon Mag.[]

Arma2-ammunition-64rndbizon

Standard 64-round helical magazine.

Does not contain any visible tracers.

Bizon SD Mag.[]

Arma2-ammunition-64rndbizon

Alternate magazine loaded with reduced velocity ammunition. Rounds fired from this magazine specifically have a lower muzzle velocity of 320 m/s.

This is the only magazine that can be loaded by the PP-19 Bizon SD.

Trivia[]

  • Like its Cold War Assault predecessor, the ArmA 2 Bizon is also modelled after the real-life "Bizon-2" variant (specifically the newer "03" model).
  • At release, the sight picture on both Bizon variants was incorrectly depicted. This was later fixed by the latest Steam version patches (as part of the CorePatch updates).[2]
