The Jackal 2 MWMIK (full name: Mobility Weapon-Mounted Installation Kit) is an Armoured Patrol Vehicle used exclusively by the British Army in ArmA 2. It was added with the release of the British Armed Forces DLC.

Overview[]

  • Roles:
    • Troop transport
    • Reconnaissance
    • Fire support
« The Jackal or MWMIK (Mobility Weapon-Mounted Installation Kit) is a combat vehicle used by the British army. Its primary role is the deep reconnaissance, rapid assault and fire support. Jackals serving in Takistan have increased survivability modifications and carry either mounted L2A1 HMG or GMG grenade launcher, both coupled with front-mounted GPMG.

This is a premium asset that requires ownership of the British Armed Forces DLC.

The Jackal serves as the British Army's multi-purpose, all-terrain mobile weapons platform and reconnaissance car.

Armament
It is available in two variants that are armed with either a .50 cal heavy machine gun or a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher fitted onto the turret ring above the vehicle's roll cage.

Both variants have a 7.62 mm medium machine gun fitted to the left-side front seat which is manned by the Jackal's commander. Unlike the turret-mounted HMG/AGL, the L7A2 GPMG is forward-facing only.

Features
The Jackal's chassis uses a four-wheel arrangement that is fully suspended by a sport-type independent double wishbone (air-adjustable ride height) system. As a weapons platform, the Jackal's turret ring is fully rotatable and provides a clear view around the entire car, offering a complete 360 degree engagement angle.

Unlike the completely unarmed Military Offroad, the Jackal is designed to be used in situations where ambushes are expected. It can attain an impressive top speed of up to 111 km/h on-road, making it a speedy platform by the standards of most troop transport vehicles in ArmA 2.

Drawbacks
The Jackal's main downside is how exposed the crew and its passengers are. Unlike the majority of wheeled vehicles in its class, it lacks a roof which renders its riders completely vulnerable to small arms fire.

As a result, the Jackal relies heavily on its good mobility to keep its riders out of harm's way. However, speed alone will not prevent the vehicle from being caught by landmines or other sources of indirect fire munitions that can cripple the Jackal or outright kill the crew with a single, well-placed shot.

When it comes to role, the Jackal occupies an unusual niche within its vehicle class that lacks purpose outside of very specific scenarios. Although it can transport a crew of five, it isn't a true Light Utility Vehicle/troop transport like the U.S. HMMWV nor the Russian UAZ-469 since it has no anti-tank weapons and lacks logistics-oriented variants. On the other hand, its armour is almost non-existent compared to larger Armoured Personnel Carriers and cannot provide heavy fire support to the same degree as BPPU-armed Vodniks.

Crew Capacity
Regardless of the variant, the Jackal always has a crew of three that consists of the driver, the gunner, and a commander. It can transport two more passengers who sit in the centre of the vehicle (beside the gunner's turret ring).

Variants[]

Arma2-render-jackalhmgwoodland
Baseline variant. Armed with a .50 cal heavy machine gun fitted to the turret ring located in the centre of the vehicle. The L111A1 HMG comes pre-loaded with a single 100-round belt box and has another 5 boxes left in reserve for a combined total of 600 rounds.

Arma2-render-jackalgmgwoodland
Identical to the baseline HMG variant but has a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher fitted instead. The GMG feeds from a single 48-round grenade belt and has 5 additional belts to spare for a total of 288 grenades.

(*) The L7A2 GPMG on both variants feeds from 200-round belt boxes. It has 6 more belt boxes left in reserve for a total of 1,400 rounds combined.

Camouflage[]

  • Desert: Standard desert tan paint scheme.
  • Woodland: Flat dark green paint scheme with woodland camouflage blobs.

Protection[]

Both variants of the Jackal have base armour values of 30.

Successful strikes to any of the following highlighted sections will inflict full damage to the component:

Arma2-jackal-hitpoints

LEGEND
Green = Body
Orange = Engine
Violet = Fuel tank

Body[]

The hull can only take a maximum of 20.1 points of damage.

Engine[]

The engine can withstand up to 60 points of damage before it fails. A damaged engine will prevent Jackals from being able to attain their top speed.

Fuel tank[]

The fuel tank can only take 30 points of damage before it ruptures. A damaged tank will cause Jackals to gradually leak fuel over time.

Wheels[]

Each of the four wheels can only take 15 points of damage before their tyres burst. Destroying them will not affect the Jackal's "health" pool.

Armament[]

The gunner position controls the turret ring mounted primary weapon (L111A1 .50 cal heavy machine gun/GMG 40 mm automatic grenade launcher) while the commander position on both models in the front-left seat handles the forward-facing L7A2 GPMG medium machine gun.

For optics, the commander's L7A2 GPMG does not have any. Only the turret ring's L111A1 and GMG have access to a magnified riflescope with a 4x zoom. This riflescope does have the ability to toggle enhanced vision modes, but the gunner does retain the option of wearing their own night vision goggles at the same time while looking through it:

L111A1[]

Arma2-vehicleweapons-jackal2mwmik-hmg

NOTE: Only available on the Jackal 2 MWMIK (HMG) variant.

Base damage value Aerodynamic friction Initial velocity (m/s)
26 -0.00068 930

General-purpose .50 cal heavy machine gun.

It can attain a fire rate of approximately ~ 545 rounds per minute and has a muzzle velocity of 930 m/s. Accuracy-wise, it has a dispersion of 0.001 rad. It takes 6 seconds to reload a new belt box or to fully rearm from a logistics truck.

The gun itself can be swivelled freely in all directions horizontally, but is vertically restricted to a maximum elevation of 40 degrees and a depression angle of 25 degrees only. It should be noted that manual zeroing is not available to the L111A1.

GMG[]

Arma2-vehicleweapons-jackal2mwmik-gmg

NOTE: Only available on the Jackal 2 MWMIK (GMG) variant.

Damage type Base damage value Aerodynamic friction Initial velocity (m/s)
High-Explosive 12 -0.001064 240

Automatic grenade launcher. Fires 40 mm grenades fitted with high-explosive (HE) warheads.

It can attain a fire rate of up to 375 RPM with a muzzle velocity of 240 m/s. Dispersion is always fixed at 0.006 rad regardless of range. Reloading a new grenade belt or fully rearming from a logistics truck takes up to 6 seconds to complete.

Like the L111A1, the GMG can be freely rotated in any direction horizontally but is limited to an elevation and depression arc of 40 and 25 degrees, respectively. However, unlike the L111A1, the GMG does support manual zeroing. This starts from a minimum of 300 m up to a maximum of 1600 m. Adjustments are made with increments/decrements of 100 m.

L7A2 GPMG[]

Arma2-vehicleweapons-jackal2mwmik-gpmg
Base damage value Aerodynamic friction Initial velocity (m/s)
12 -0.0009324 834

7.62 mm medium machine gun. Controlled by the commander's seat.

It can attain a fire rate of up to 800 RPM and has a muzzle velocity of 834 m/s. Accuracy-wise, it has a fixed dispersion of 0.0012 rad regardless of range. It takes up to 5 seconds to reload a fresh belt/cloth pouch or to fully rearm from a logistics truck.

Rotation limits range from a maximum of 35 and 45 degrees (left/right) horizontally. Vertically, elevation is limited to 40 degrees and a depression of 18 degrees. Unlike the L111A1, manual zeroing is available on the L7A2. This begins from a minimum of 100 m up to a maximum of 800 m (adjustments are made with increments/decrements of 100 m).

Trivia[]

  • Prior to the latest Steam version patches, zeroing on the GMG would occasionally reset back to 100 metres when adjusting it to 1,800 metres which could occur even while it was being fired by the gunner. This was eventually corrected by fixes introduced in CorePatch.[1]
    • CorePatch also adjusted the Jackal's model to be slightly smaller, completely overhauled the zeroing settings of both the L111A1 HMG and 40 mm GMG, and fixed a visual discrepancy that could be seen in the first person LOD (Level of Detail) on woodland-camouflaged Jackals (they would still appear to be using a desert paint scheme even if they did not appear as such in third person).[1]
