The Mk 48 Mod 0 is a 7.62 mm medium machine gun that is used by both USMC and U.S. Army special forces in ArmA 2.

Overview Edit

The Mk 48 Mod 0 is an air-cooled, gas operated belt-fed machine gun that is chambered to fire the 7.62×51 mm NATO round.

It loads from 100 round belts stored in cloth pouches and has a fire rate of up to 846 rounds per minute, with a muzzle velocity of 900 m/s. There are two variants of the Mk 48 that are available; both are equipped with the CCO red dot sight but only one model (used by the U.S. Army) features a usable laser pointer. Both also feature (non-functional) integrated bipods, but neither variant can be fitted with a sound suppressor.

Essentially a streamlined variant of the M240 designed exclusively for use by U.S. special operations, the Mk 48 possesses the same high damage output and fire rate. It is also slightly lighter to carry as well as having less recoil.

The Mk 48's main drawback is its low accuracy. Unlike with the M240, the Mk 48 suffers from having a greater amount of dispersion when firing at distant targets. This is particularly noticeable when attacking targets that are located 600 metres and beyond, but can be slightly improved by firing from a prone position.

If going prone is not an option, then it's recommended to fire the Mk 48 in short bursts of 2-4 rounds instead of holding down the trigger. Not only will this lessen the muzzle climb and reduce the chances of missing, it will also help to conserve the Mk 48's somewhat limited ammunition pool (compared to the likes of the M249 SAW for example, which has 200 rounds in a single belt).

Camouflage Edit

  • Woodland: Woodland spraypaint camouflage finish. Used on Mk 48s carried by USMC Force Recon operators.
  • Desert: Three-colour desert spraypaint camouflage finish. Used on Mk 48s carried by U.S. Army Delta Force operators.

Trivia Edit

  • Sergeant Rodriguez appears to favour the Mk 48 as his primary weapon of choice, as he can be seen equipped with it by default throughout almost every mission in Harvest Red.
