The Pecheneg is said to be much more accurate than all its predecessors due to a heavier, non-removable forced air cooling barrel with radial cooling ribs and a handle which eliminates the haze effect from hot gases and keeps the barrel significantly cooler, making the weapon more reliable. The PKP is a 7.62 mm general-purpose machine gun used exclusively by the Russian Armed Forces in ArmA 2.
Overview[]
The PKP is a gas operated medium machine gun that is chambered to fire the 7.62×54 mm round.
It loads from the same 100-round belt metal boxes used by the PKM, has the same rate of rate of 667 rounds per minute and has an identical muzzle velocity of 825 m/s. The PKP is only available in a single variant fitted with the 1P78 telescopic sight. It has a (non-functional) integrated bipod, but otherwise does not support sound suppressors or side rail accessories.
The PKP is essentially a modernised variant of the ubiquitous PKM machine gun used by the Russian military as its standard issue GPMG. While it is statistically identical to the former performance-wise, the PKP is better thanks to its 1P78 optical sight.
Being magnified, it provides better clarity for the user against distant targets instead of having to rely on the PKM's barebones ironsights. It has brackets that are accurate at distances of up to 790 metres, though the PKP itself is more than capable of hitting targets well beyond that distance.
Alternately, the PKP also allows its user to aim via the PKP's own ironsights, a handy "feature" in close quarters or for when the 1P78's magnified view is unnecessary. Its only drawback is that it weighs slightly more than the PKM which makes reduces the user's dexterity. But in the hands of an expert, the PKP is far more effective than the PKM in providing accurate suppressive fire.

The PKP only supports one type of "magazine". It will require two free inventory slots to carry:

Metal box containing a linked belt with 100-rounds of 7.62 mm ball ammunition. They can be shared with PKMs.
Every fourth round will be a visible green tracer, but the last four rounds in the belt will always consist exclusively of tracers.
Trivia[]
- Although it is portrayed as the primary GPMG of the Russian military, the in-game PKP is incorrectly referred to by its manufacturer name instead of being designated by its GRAU index code of 6P41.[1]
- Following the latest Steam version patches (as part of the Community Configuration Project/CorePatch updates), PKPs were granted an alternate backup sight mode, allowing the user to aim with the weapon's ironsights rather than just through the 1P78 scope.[2]
- However, CorePatch also indirectly reduced the PKP's muzzle velocity due to its usage of the PKM's 100-round belt boxes.
- A hidden sub-variant of the PKP that specifically does not obstruct the wearer's backpack slot exists but remains unused (Classname: Pecheneg_Small). It cannot be equipped in regular gameplay without the use of scripting commands or a custom addon.
