« The Zafir 7.62 mm is a light machine gun mass-produced by China. It is said to be based on a copied Israeli design, which spawned a lengthy legal conflict that still remains unresolved. The Zafir is a gas-powered automatic firearm, that uses easily replaceable ammo boxes carrying up to 150 rounds. 7.62 mm caliber ammunition gives the Zafir an advantage over BLUFOR MX SW weapons when compared in power and range, but the weapon itself is heavier and less maneuverable.

The Zafir 7.62 mm light machine gun.

The Zafir is a 7.62 mm light machine gun exclusively used by Mediterranean CSAT forces in ArmA 3.

Overview

The Zafir is a belt fed, gas operated selective-fire light machine gun that is chambered to fire 7.62×54 mm rounds.

It feeds from 150 round linked belts stored in cloth pouches, and has a rate of fire of 952 rounds per minute (depending on fire mode) with a muzzle velocity of 860 m/s. The Zafir accepts top and side rail accessories, but cannot mount any muzzle attachments. It has an integrated bipod fitted beneath the forward end of the handguard, and also uses a stabilised foregrip.

Despite its heavy recoil, the Zafir provides superb firepower in a small package for CSAT infantry squads. Because it's chambered in 7.62 mm as opposed to 6.5 mm, it also outmatches the Mk200 in almost every situation; not only in terms of range but also when it comes to stopping power and penetration.

The primary downside to the Zafir stems from its heavier weight. This means that its operator is restricted to carrying far less reserve ammunition in order to avoid overburdening their stamina. The Mk200 on the other hand, has 50 more rounds per belt and is also lighter to wield and carry.

It is also unable to fit any suppressors, which makes it ill-suited to bring on missions that require stealth.

Trivia

  • As stated in its Field Manual entry, the Zafir is directly based on the Israeli-made "NEGEV NG-7" designed by the Israel Weapon Industries (IWI). The NG7 is a variant of the baseline NEGEV LMG family that is chambered to fire 7.62×51 mm NATO ammunition as opposed to 5.56 mm.
    • The Zafir also features what appears to be an aftermarket stock manufactured by FAB Defense as part of its furniture.
  • The Zafir's model has an unused proxy that would enable the user to fit attachments onto its muzzle. However, the Zafir is not configured by default to be able to do so even though there are 7.62 mm suppressors available for mounting.
  • Prior to the Beta's release, the Mk200 served as a placeholder LMG for CSAT automatic riflemen during the Alpha before it was eventually replaced.
  • Along with the Rahim, the Zafir was initially chambered to fire 7.62×51 mm NATO ammunition like its real-life counterpart. This was later re-factored to 7.62×54 mm instead after Marksmen DLC was released as part of Game Update 1.42.
  • Pacific CSAT forces do not use the Zafir as they utilise the LSW variant of the CAR-95 series as their squad automatic weapon instead.
